EASY HUMMUS FOR ANY OCCASION

It has happened to me a few times that I have guests in my house and I wasn’t prepare for “entertaining”. As I was living on my own my refrigerator was pretty much always empty and I hate the idea of having visits and nothing to offer. Sometimes I didn’t have time after work to stop at a supermarket and buy some cheese or chips for my guests. What a shame!

A good friend of mine shared a really easy recipe for hummus. It was so easy to make I thought that with this kind of recipes i’ll always be saved from being a terrible host whenever I’m with guests and no food.

Hummus is basically a chickpeas paste that you can dip with pretty much whatever you want. Because it has a smooth taste, it goes really well with bread, vegetables, even chips. It comes from the middle east cuisine and the word in arabic simply means “chickpeas”.

Why I says this is for any occasion is because you can have the ingredients at home and if you ever need to make a quick appetizer you can just mix everything in 5 minutes and you will be saved from not having anything to offer to your guests.

Ingredients
lemons
1 jar of chickpeas
Juice from 1 lemon
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1 tablespoon of powder garlic
1 tablespoon of tahini (sesame seed paste you can find in any supermarket, usually in the international food aisle)
1 or 2 tablespoons of olive oil

First put the chickpeas (without the juice from the jar) in a bowl and create a paste using a hand food processor. Then add the rest of the ingredients. Blend for a couple of minutes until all the ingredients are smooth and mixed.

Serve in a round plate or bowl. Put some sesame oil or olive oil on the top with sesame seeds and paprika.

Have some pitta bread in the freezer and put them in a toaster until they are crunchy. Cut them in 4 and serve with the hummus. If you don’t have pitta bread, cut any bread into small pieces and it will work. If you have cucumber make some slides.

So easy and so delicious!
